Why we're starting a blog (and what it's actually for)

I'll be honest — I've put off writing this post for a while.

Not because I didn't know what to say, but because "welcome to our blog" felt like exactly the kind of thing I started Shop Local Cheshire to avoid. Generic. A bit corporate. The kind of post nobody actually wants to read.

So instead, here's the real version: why this blog exists, and what you can actually expect from it.

This isn't going to be a press release machine

If you've been part of this community for a while, you'll know Shop Local Cheshire was never meant to be a stiff, formal directory. It's a community — built by an independent business owner, for independent business owners, and for the people who love supporting them.

This blog is just that, in writing. A place for:

  • The stories behind the businesses — the ones you won't get from a five-second Google search

  • Honest reviews and recommendations — the cafés, shops and services actually worth your time this month

  • What's going on locally — events, openings, markets, the things worth putting in your diary

  • A bit of behind-the-scenes — from me, from the team, from the community we're building together

No filler. No "10 Tips for Shopping Local" listicles written by someone who's never set foot in Nantwich. Just useful, honest, local content.

Why now?

Mostly because I kept having conversations — with members, with shoppers, with people in the Shop Local Cheshire Facebook group — that deserved a proper home. A great new café opening. A member hitting a milestone they were proud of. A genuinely useful tip for finding the best local market days.

Those conversations were happening anyway. This is just giving them somewhere to live.

What's coming

Over the next few weeks, you can expect:

  • A proper look at some of our newest members and what makes them worth a visit

  • A round-up of what's on across Cheshire this season

  • Some honest reviews — written by people who've actually been, not copied from a press release

Got a recommendation?

If there's a local business, event, or hidden gem you think deserves a spotlight, I want to hear about it. This community runs on word of mouth — this blog is just a slightly more permanent version of that.

Drop us a message, tag us on Instagram, or reply to one of our emails. If it's good, there's a good chance you'll see it here.

Thanks for being part of this from the start.
